Bicyclists are discomfortable for pedestrians, because they come up silently from behind and overtake them suddenly. Since millions of years, our instinct warns us that this might be dangerous - and som elderly women found that warning true. It would help a lot if every bicycle had a little bell bound into the spokes which would unobtrusively but distinctly tell about its movements.
